Two-Time Maritime Innovation Award Winner

RLT Marine is proud to look back on two major industry recognitions that marked the beginning of our award-winning journey: Our first Maritime Innovation Award at the Mediterranean Maritime Forum in May 2023, followed by a second Maritime Innovation Award at the World Maritime Forum in Copenhagen in February 2024, hosted by IGGS.

These awards represent the early confidence the maritime sector placed in our approach to modern, energy-efficient lighting — and the momentum that’s driven the success of solutions like the VULKAAN LED Retrofit Kit.

They also confirmed something central to who we are as a company: that our ongoing focus on innovation, both then and now, is recognised and valued by the industry.

Mediterranean Maritime Forum – Our First Maritime Innovation Award, May 2023

May 2023 marked a breakthrough moment for RLT Marine. At the Mediterranean Maritime Forum, we received our first Maritime Innovation Award, recognising the fresh engineering and forward-thinking behind the relatively newly developed VULKAAN LED Retrofit Kit.

At the time, VULKAAN was still early in its journey — a bold new idea focused on delivering maximum energy savings while extending the life of existing marine lighting fixtures. 

For a team already committed to pushing lighting technology forward, this early recognition confirmed that our focus on practical innovation was resonating where it mattered most: onboard real vessels, solving real problems.

The award signalled early validation from the industry:

• recognition of a retrofit concept that prioritised practicality over complexity

• confidence in a solution designed to reduce emissions without disrupting operations

• and acknowledgement that VULKAAN represented a real step forward in sustainable onboard lighting

For us, this first award was more than recognition. It was the moment we knew we were addressing real needs for shipowners and operators seeking long-term, reliable efficiency improvements.

It felt like the start of something significant — and it was.

World Maritime Forum Copenhagen – Maritime Innovation Award, February 2024

In February 2024, at the World Maritime Forum in Copenhagen, hosted by IGGS, we received our second Maritime Innovation Award — a milestone that reinforced how far we’d come in less than a year.

The Copenhagen event brought together global leaders, technical specialists, and operators from across the maritime sector. It gave our team the chance to reconnect with clients, meet new partners, and discuss the sustainability and efficiency challenges fleets are navigating as regulations tighten.

This award reflected:

• the continued evolution of the VULKAAN LED Retrofit Kit

• the real-world performance improvements being delivered across active fleets

• and our role in helping shipowners modernise systems while cutting energy use

By 2024, the impact of VULKAAN was clear — and the industry recognised it.

A Strong Foundation for What Came Next

Together, the 2023 and 2024 Maritime Innovation Awards marked the beginning of RLT Marine’s modern era of product development and hands-on industry support.

Those early wins validated our belief that innovation should be:
